My personal collection of GO faux couture. From left: Proenza Schouler, Libertine, Rogan, Richard Chai, Jonathan Saunders, Tracy Feith, Rodarte, Jean Paul Gaultier, Zac Posen
I'm so pleased to write that Target's GO Collection is no longer a secret. All across the nation, people are flocking to the Sunday starts (though if you check for the collection on a Saturday, you could get lucky) and piling their carts with designs by the likes of Luella Bartley, Proenza Schouler, Erin Fetherston, Rodarte, Jean Paul Gaultier, and most recently Zac Posen, to name a few. Couture and Ready-to-Wear versions by these designers are out of reach for most of us, but the faux couture that Target offers is a fast, fun way to access high fashion designs. Some of the fabrics, especially in regards to the frocks, leave much to be desired. Each line offers a handful of pieces that are more wearable in fabric and design. I personally lean toward the separates that I can integrate into my wardrobe, mixing the low end with the medium to high end.
e.g. :: Mix an affordable and sexy lace cardigan by Rodarte with a pale gray silk blouse, dark jeans, and colorful heels. Excessive pearls keep the look from getting too boring.
e.g. :: Example #2 is the same lace Rodarte cardigan over a cotton Libertine tank top, and oversized khaki trousers purchased in Korea. "Naked" sandals and big earrings are the only accessories you need.
e.g. :: One of my favorite pieces from the Zac Posen collection is this gigantic scarf with a safety pin motif. We all know how to tie a scarf, but how about wearing it as a halter top? Simply tie the corners around your neck, and gather the rest with a pin at the back, belt it, or tie it. I added some fitted, black, ankle length pants, and my favorite white brogues. This outfit needs lots of gold jewelry.
I don't know who the next GO designer is - do you? Although I didn't mention the accessories, there are capsule collections with well known jewelers and shoe designers. I like to spend my money on nice shoes and accessories to support my faux couture.
I get most of my clothes from Target but in the mens department. I'lll have to look in my own gender's department now.
