If you are a regular reader, you may recall my singular obsession: hair cuts. Since my last dramatic cut, I mowed off the hawk and kept a very simple pixie. It's been nice, low maintenance, but also very humbling.
Humbling. Why?
Well, since you ask, wearing very short hair is a bit like walking around in a super short, tight dress. It's revealing. Your features are put out there - your skin, your neck, your ears, your proportions all come into maximum exposure. Sometimes I don't want to put my face on display, but with a pixie cut, you don't have a fringe to hide behind. And it's *gulp* not as easy to rock this cut as it was when I was in my 20s. Maybe I'll try it again in my 50s, but for now it's time to grow.
I'm taking my daily multivitamins to pump up the process, but in the meantime, I'm going to have to go through some ugly duckling haircuts to get to the mermaid hair I will one day wake up with. I've been doing a little research, and does anyone else notice how celebrities will go pixie for a few months, then a few weeks later, they have a chic bob? Where's the in between phase where all the hair is essentially the same length and either sticks straight out (like my hair), or falls flat? Since I don't have the cash or the interest to get a full set of extensions (they just seem icky to me), I'm going to have to toughen up and look weird for a few months. Here are some inspiration shots I found to help me get through it.
Or, do as Audrey would, and don a hat.
Well, I need to hit the road. My appointment is very soon. I hope I don't crumble with weakness at the sight of the shears and beg for an even shorter cut. Crazier things have happened to me at the salon.
love all these cuts & makes me want to take about 8" of my do. I find that one thing about having long tresses is that I get way more attention from men. Men love the long hair. When I had a short pixie, it was kind of a relief to not get as much attention from the guys.

So true. It takes a very particular male to appreciate a woman with super short hair. Maybe it's intimidating? Not sexy? It's so subjective, but the majority does seem to prefer the long hair.
